Volleyball Rules & Regulations

ICE PARK VOLLEYBALL
LEAGUE RULES

1.      PLAYING AREA:  The playing court is 50’ long by 30’ wide 

2.      NET HEIGHT:  The net height is 7’6” 

3.      START DATES:
Monday, May 10th
Tuesday, May 11th
Wednesday, May 12th
Thursday, May 13th
Friday, May 14th
Sunday, May 16th

4.      BALLS:  The Ice Park will supply each league with balls. Balls that become old and not useable will be replaced by the Ice Park. Each night teams will receive four balls and they will be replaced accordingly throughout the season.  Each ball costs $60.00, so please do not remove them from our facility.  ICE PARK” will be written on each ball, so there should be no mistake as to which balls belong to the facility. 

5.      SCORING SYSTEM: – Side Out Scoring: A format of scoring where points can be won only by the serving team.  Score is kept until the buzzer sounds after 30 minutes. Once the buzzer sounds, if the ball is still in play, teams will continue until the point is made. Tie games after the buzzer are final. 

6.   NET PLAY: 
a. You may NOT go under the net to play the ball.  If a block is attempted your feet must land on your side for the block to count. 
b. The ball can contact any part of the net and its supporting ropes and cables, but not the poles or eye hooks, during play. 
c. The ball can be played back to one’s side of the net if it has crossed past the imaginary extension of the net on the sides of the court or under the net as long as a team has one or more contacts left. 
d. A serve hitting the net and clearing the net is considered in play. 

7.   PLAYING THE BALL:  Each team is entitled to a maximum of 3 hits (in addition to blocking) to return the ball.a. Tips are allowed.b. Overhand, underhand and jump serves are all allowed.  c. A touch on the block does not count as one of the three contacts allowed per team.        d. If you touch the net after spiking a ball it is still a “net” even if the spike hit the sand before you touched the net and the ball goes back to the other team.e. Spiking the ball is allowed.f. You may NOT spike or block the ball on a serve. 

8.    PLAYING THE GAME: - All Ice Park Volleyball leagues are Co-Ed 6 on 6.  - Teams must play three males and three females on the court. - If only two females are present for your team, then you may only play three males (5 players total) if okay’d by the opposing team. If only one female is present for your team, this season, the game will go down as a forfeit. The two teams may still play a game for fun, but it will not go down as a sanctioned game. A forfeit loss will result in a 15-0 win for the opposing team.- Teams must have at least four team members (including at least two female) to start the game. If only three members are present, the game if a forfeit.  - All games will be 30 minutes in duration. Once the buzzer sounds to end the game, the buzzer will automatically reset, and the next set of games will begin.- A team member is required to write down the score on the board following the game. 

9.    BEVERAGES ON THE COURT: Beverages are allowed on the courts but must be purchased from the Ice Park. All drinks MUST be put in plastic cups. This season, players found with bottles will be removed from the games, and are not permitted to play for the rest of the evening. Should a second offence occur with a team, they will forfeit the remainder of their games for that evening. This rule is for the safety of the league.  

10.  RAINOUTS:  All games will be played rain or shine. If the court conditions are unplayable and/or if there is lightning, then games will be called.  If a team does not have the appropriate number of players at game time, they will also be given a forfeit.  If a game is cancelled for any reason prior to game time, an Ice Park representative will call the captain and inform them that the game is cancelled.  Please inform all players that they are to call the CAPTAINS to inquire about rainouts. Notifications of cancelled games will also appear on www.icepark.ca before 4:00pm.

11.  GAME CANCELLATIONS – Teams will NOT be able to re-schedule their games to a later date. If your team can not field a team, please notify the Ice Park so we can contact your opposing teams. 

12.  PLAYOFF ELIGIBLITY: Only players that are registered with the team online will be eligible to play in the playoffs. No spares will be allowed for the playoffs. 

PLAYOFFS 

Teams will play three weeks of round robin, followed by a FINALS tournament the following week. All forfeits in the playoffs will also be recorded as 15-0.
