Saturday Hockey League SEMI-FINALS
Monday, April 12, 2010 10:06 AM
To the Saturday Hockey League teams:

Please review the playoff match-ups and previews below:

"A" DIVISION:

The Top Guns and Comfort Plus Heating Jets went to the FOURTH tie-breaker (penalty minutes) and the Jets edged the Top Guns with just four less penalty minutes to clinch the first place seed. Stinky Sharks went without a regulation loss in the round-robin with a 2-0-1 record, but with their shootout loss in week one, they secured the third place slot. Hitmen rounded up the fourth seed with a 1-2 record. The semis should be interesting this weekend for all four teams, as many of their games went to shootouts when they met during the regular season.

"B" DIVISION:

Both Pools were tight as expected, and tie-breakers came in to play for 6 of the 8 division teams. In both Pools, all of the top three teams picked up 2-1 records and remarkably all beat one another to eliminate the head-to-head tie-breaker. In the "A" Pool, Fog Devils edged out the Ice Dogs by 2 less goals against to take the 1st seed, as the Ice Dogs squeaked out two more goals over Expert Painting who just barely missed advancing to the next round.

In Pool "B", things were even tighter, as the Thunder and Bullies were forced to the penalty-minutes tie-breaker to joust for the first and second seed. Thunder received 24 penalty minutes in their three round robin games, while the Bullies received 28 total pims. Thunder therefore secure the top seed and will meet the Ice Dogs, while the Fog Devils will battle it out with the Bullies. On a side note, KW Glass just missed the goals against tie-breaker by four goals (14 ga) while the Bullies and Thunder's 10 ga forced the penalty minutes tie-breaker.

"C" DIVISION:

With one of the biggest surprises of the playoffs, the 2nd place Gongshow went winless, and the 6th place Scorpions went 3-0 securing the first place seed moving in to the semi finals as they will match-up with the 2-1 Moose Knuckles. Last season's champs Shear Metal looked strong through their round-robin going 3-0 themselves, and will meet with the 2-1 Kodiaks. These two games should be tight, and any team could come out with a win to move them to the finals.

With that said, here are the semi finals game times for this Saturday:

NORTH:
4:00pm Shear Metal v Kodiaks
5:00pm Scorpions v Moose Knuckles
6:00pm Fog Devils v Bullies

SOUTH:
4:30pm Ice Dogs v Thunder
5:30pm Comfort Plus Jets v Hitmen
6:30pm Top Guns v Stinky Sharks

Gentleman, please note that IN CASE OF A TIE AFTER REGULATION, all teams will skate to a 4 on 4 - 10 minute overtime period. If nothing is settled, a 3 man shootout will take place with the home team choosing which team will shoot first. (No simutaneous shootout for semis and finals).

The Finals Schedule will take place as follows on April 24th:

4:00pm "C" FINALS
5:00pm "B" FINALS
6:00pm "A" FINALS

Good luck to all teams who have advanced.
