Six semi-final games took place this past Saturday, and all were entertaining, tight battles to the finish.
In the "C" Pool, The Kodiaks put together a strong defensive effort against the top-seeded Shear Metal squad, as they knocked them off 3-1 to give them a berth in the Finals. The Moose Knuckles popped two goals early in the first period and never looked back as they defeated the Scorpions 5-2. Expect a close final between the Kodiaks and the Knuckles.
Over on the "B" side, it took overtime to determine the Thunder and Ice Dog's chances to advance to the Finals after the Dogs scored a game-tying goal with just 40 seconds left in regulation. However in the sudden-death period, the Thunder prevailed with a game winning goal just over the blueline to advance them to the finals next Saturday. In the other "B" match-up, the Bullies went toe-to-toe with the Fog Devils in a back and forth battle to the finish. With the score knotted 2-2 after two periods, the teams offence's exploded with six goals in the final seven minutes of regulation, with the Fog Devils putting the finishing touches on the Bullies season with 1:46 to go. The Fog Devils will meet with the Thunder in what should be a tight-checking, aggressive finals.
And finally, in the "A" pool, the Hitmen advanced past the number one seeded Comfort Jets with a late PP goal, to secure a 3-2 victory. This will be back-to-back finals for the Hitmen who won the "A" Championship last season. In a game that was anticipated to be a close one, the Stinky Sharks battled last year's finalists and former League Champion Top Guns. The game broke open mid-way through the second period, as the Sharks took a 3-2 lead and never looked back. The 5-2 final gave the Sharks a place in the finals with the Hitmen.
Good luck to all teams playing this Saturday!
